Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has insisted that Ghana’s heavy 5-1 defeat to Austria last Friday did not truly reflect the team’s overall performance.

The loss in Vienna marked Ghana’s biggest setback since 2007, but Addo believes the margin of defeat was overly harsh on his side.

“The scoreline was a bit deceptive, and our performance wasn’t so bad,” Addo said after the match. “If we were a little bit smarter, we could have gotten something from the game.”

Despite the defensive lapses that proved costly, the Black Stars showed flashes of attacking intent. Addo noted that improved decision-making in key moments could have produced a more favourable result.

Attention now turns to Ghana’s next assignment against Germany on Monday, where Addo will be hoping for a stronger response and a more disciplined performance.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 18:45 GMT and forms part of Ghana’s build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
