Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has visited the site of the collapsed building at the Accra Experimental Basic School in New Town, where rescue teams continue to search for individuals trapped under the rubble.
The uncompleted school structure, reportedly used for Christian worship on Sundays, collapsed earlier today, prompting a rapid response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), and the Ghana Police Service.
By the time of the Minister’s arrival, about eight people had been rescued, though authorities have yet to confirm the total number of victims or the extent of injuries.
Haruna Iddrisu met with emergency personnel to oversee the ongoing excavation and ensure that the rescue efforts are coordinated effectively.
Residents and bystanders remain at the scene, assisting where possible while emergency officials work carefully to prevent further accidents.
The area has been cordoned off to allow teams to operate safely.
Officials continue to appeal for calm as the rescue operation progresses and have promised updates on the condition of the trapped individuals and the progress of the excavation.
