A fire outbreak involving lithium batteries has been contained at the Ghana Digital Terrestrial Transmission Centre in Brekuso, with no casualties recorded.
The incident occurred on March 28, 2026, when a container housing solar inverter batteries was engulfed in flames, raising concerns due to the highly combustible nature of lithium-based energy storage systems.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), led by a team from the Anyaa Fire Station, responded swiftly to the emergency. Firefighters battled the blaze and successfully brought it under control before fully extinguishing it, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby installations at the facility.

The intensity of the fire was heightened by the presence of lithium batteries, which are known to burn at extremely high temperatures and can be difficult to suppress once ignited.
Despite the scale of the incident, no injuries or fatalities were reported.

Authorities say investigations are currently underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.
The incident has once again highlighted the potential risks associated with lithium battery storage, particularly in large-scale energy and transmission facilities, as Ghana continues to expand its use of renewable energy systems.
