Former Ghana international Augustine Ahinful has cautioned Black Stars head coach Otto Addo over his public communication, following comments made in the aftermath of Ghana’s heavy defeat to Austria.

Otto Addo, reacting to growing criticism and calls for his dismissal after the 5–1 loss, stated that he does not “pay attention to social media”.

However, Ahinful believes such remarks could send the wrong message to fans and stakeholders.

“He said he doesn’t read social media. If you speak like this, then there is a problem,” Ahinful said. “Some people say they don’t go to the media, but they go privately. When they are in their bedrooms, you are not there, so you can’t say they are completely unaware.”

The former striker questioned the implication of Addo’s statement, suggesting it could be interpreted as a lack of concern or transparency in a difficult moment for Ghana football.

“When you speak like this, it means you are not bothered, not worried about what has happened, or not being transparent. He has to be very careful,” he added.

Ahinful revealed that he has previously shared similar concerns with the coach in private, urging him to be more measured when addressing the public.

“I’ve told him this privately; he has to be very careful when he speaks to the public,” Ahinful emphasised.
