Ghana head coach Otto Addo has moved to dismiss growing criticism following the Black Stars’ heavy 5-1 loss to Austria, stressing that scrutiny comes with the territory of leading a national team.

The defeat in Vienna has triggered renewed debate over his position, with sections of supporters questioning whether he is the right man to guide Ghana into the 2026 World Cup.

However, the former Borussia Dortmund assistant coach struck a composed tone after the match, downplaying the backlash and insisting he pays little attention to external opinions.

“This is the job of a coach. When we lose, people are mainly trying to bring you down. I don’t really read too many things,” Addo said after the game.

“Even if we win, I’m not too much into social media or reading anything. Whatever people say, it’s normal, especially on an evening like this when the team didn’t play well and we also lost,” he added.

His remarks underline a manager determined to remain insulated from public pressure, even as concerns mount over both the result and the team’s overall display.

The performance against Austria exposed defensive weaknesses and a lack of cohesion, raising questions about Ghana’s preparedness ahead of key upcoming fixtures.

Attention now turns to the Black Stars’ next assignment against Germany on Monday, March 30, in Stuttgart, with kick-off set for 18:45 GMT. The fixture forms part of Ghana’s build-up to the 2026 World Cup, to be hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
