Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has predicted a blockbuster final between Argentina and Germany at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, tipping the Europeans to lift the trophy.
In an interview with One Football, Gyan expressed confidence in Germany’s pedigree on football’s biggest stage, backing the four-time champions to triumph.
“Argentina and Germany are my picks for the World Cup final, and Germany to win,” Gyan said.
Despite favouring the traditional powerhouses of Europe and South America, the ex-striker remained optimistic about Ghana’s chances at the tournament. He believes the Black Stars have what it takes to emerge as surprise contenders when the competition kicks off across North America.
“Ghana will be the dark horse of the tournament, and Kylian Mbappé will be the top scorer,” he added, making a bold prediction for individual honours.
Gyan, Africa’s all-time leading scorer at the World Cup, shared his insights ahead of the 2026 edition, which will be staged across the United States, Canada, and Mexico and is set to be the largest in the competition’s history. His predictions offer a mix of respect for established giants and belief in Ghana’s potential to upset the odds.
