The Member of Parliament for Mampong and Minority Spokesperson on Lands and Natural Resources, Kweku Ampratwum-Sarpong, has indicated that the Damang Mine could soon be handed over to Engineers & Planners, a company owned by Ibrahim Mahama.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, he said recent developments around the mine suggest that the company is positioning itself to take over operations.
“Although no official decision has been made on who will manage the Damang Mine after the government refused to extend Gold Fields’ lease following 30 years of operation, the signs point strongly to Engineers & Planners,” he stated.
He added that Ibrahim Mahama has reportedly secured a loan of about $205 million from financial institutions, including Stanbic Bank and Standard Bank, and has started acquiring heavy-duty equipment in preparation for mining activities.
The MP also raised concerns over a potential conflict of interest, noting reports that Ibrahim Mahama’s private jet has been used by John Dramani Mahama for official travel.
“Given these circumstances, it would not be surprising if Engineers & Planners are awarded the Damang Mine,” he said, stressing that the Minority is watching the developments closely.
