Staff of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly Head Office have been crowned winners of a cooking competition held to climax the Assembly’s week-long Eat Ghana, Wear Ghana celebration.

The event, which took place on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at the forecourt of the Assembly, brought together staff from various departments and sub-metropolitan districts, all clad in Ghanaian-themed attire, to prepare and showcase a variety of local dishes.

Organisers say the competition was designed to promote Ghanaian cuisine, support local industries, and strengthen unity and cultural pride among staff.

At the end of the contest, the Head Office team secured first place with a well-prepared banku served with okro stew. The Honourable Assembly Members placed second with ampesi and garden egg stew, while the Okai Koi Sub-Metro took third position with konkonte paired with groundnut soup.

Other notable entries included fufu with goat light soup by the Ashiedu Keteke Sub-Metro and beans with fried plantain presented by the Ablekuma South Sub-Metro.

The initiative forms part of efforts to encourage the consumption and promotion of locally produced goods within corporate Ghana.

The Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, said the competition reflects the Assembly’s commitment to preserving Ghanaian culture and supporting local enterprise.

He noted that food remains a central part of Ghana’s identity and heritage, adding that initiatives such as Eat Ghana, Wear Ghana play a critical role in boosting local businesses and contributing to national economic growth.

He also commended staff for their enthusiastic participation, describing the display of unity, creativity, and cultural pride as commendable and aligned with the Assembly’s vision of building a vibrant and culturally conscious city.
