The Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to work towards securing a decisive parliamentary majority in the 2028 general elections.

Speaking at a meeting with the Tertiary Students Confederacy on Wednesday, March 25, he expressed confidence in the party’s strength despite its current minority position in Parliament.

“We are 87, but we are mighty,” he said, downplaying the numerical advantage of the governing side and insisting that the NPP remains a formidable political force.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin emphasised the need for the party to translate its strength into electoral victory by securing a commanding majority in Parliament to support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

He likened the current political atmosphere to the period leading up to the 2016 elections, noting that the party is experiencing a similar wave of optimism.

The Effutu MP also suggested there is uncertainty within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding its future leadership, while highlighting the NPP’s readiness with what he described as a “tried and tested” candidate.

He called on party members to remain united and rally behind Dr. Bawumia to drive the next phase of Ghana’s transformation.
