Member of Parliament for Twifo Atti-Morkwa, David Vondee, has stated that road construction projects under the Big Push infrastructure programme are not permanent jobs.

Speaking on Accra-based UTV Ghana, he explained that road construction, by its nature, is temporary and comes to an end once a project is completed and handed over.

Using the road project from Kasoa to Takoradi as an example, he noted that once construction is finished, contractors move their equipment off-site, marking the end of the job.

According to him, any contractor who treats road construction as a permanent activity is not doing the work properly, as civil engineering projects are designed to have a clear beginning and end.

He, however, pointed out that aspects such as road maintenance and management can provide long-term employment opportunities.

The MP emphasized the need for the public to understand that while construction itself is temporary, related services like maintenance can offer more sustainable jobs.
