The Nkwanta North District Health Director in the Oti Region, Eric Agboka, has called for the urgent upgrade of the Sibi Central CHPS Compound into a full-fledged health centre to improve healthcare delivery for residents.
Sibi Central, a predominantly farming community with a population of over 8,000, currently depends on a CHPS compound with limited infrastructure and resources.
According to Mr. Agboka, the growing population and increasing demand for healthcare services have placed significant pressure on the facility, making expansion necessary.

He made the appeal during the district’s annual performance review held at Sibi, stressing that upgrading the facility would enhance service delivery, improve maternal and child healthcare, and reduce avoidable referrals to distant centres.
Mr. Agboka further noted that Nkwanta North remains one of the most populous districts in the Oti Region but has only two health centres located at Damanko and Kpassa.

He said elevating Sibi Central to a health centre would help bridge the healthcare gap and bring quality services closer to surrounding communities.
He also called on chiefs, community members, and other stakeholders to support efforts to expand and upgrade the facility, emphasising that collective action would be key to achieving the goal.

Meanwhile, the nurse in charge of the Sibi Central facility, Justice Believe Adjie, backed the call, describing the workload on staff as overwhelming due to the high patient turnout and limited resources.
He said a larger and better-equipped facility would ease the burden on health workers and significantly improve service delivery.
