The Vice President, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has called on news agencies operating under the Office of Government Communications to prioritise accuracy and maintain high standards of credibility in their reporting.
She cautioned state-owned media against publishing distorted information, stressing the importance of delivering content that is factual, balanced, and free from misinformation.
Speaking during a working visit to the office on Tuesday, March 17, Prof Opoku-Agyemang emphasised that public confidence in state institutions largely depends on the integrity of the information they share.
She further urged agencies to embrace innovation in storytelling, noting that evolving audience expectations require media organisations to remain dynamic and competitive.
“But at least if you give the public different ways in which they can understand that particular material, I think that you have a unique way also of raising your status. I know you are doing a good job already. We are always looking at ways in which you can improve,” she said.
Prof Opoku-Agyemang added, “I want to thank all of you for the work you are doing. I encourage you to do more. Know that we are there to support you to achieve more, not just for yourself or your agency, but for our beloved country, Ghana.”
Her remarks come amid growing public concern over the circulation of unblurred and graphic footage of victims from a recent helicopter crash in Tema, sparking renewed discussions on ethical journalism, respect for human dignity, and responsible reporting.
