The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has officially commenced training for the first batch of newly recruited personnel, following the completion of selection for this year’s recruitment exercise.
In a press release issued on March 17, 2026, the military confirmed that 2,000 recruits have been selected, forming the first of four batches for 2026. The recruits are expected to report to designated centres across Ghana’s 16 regions on Wednesday, March 18, at 9:00 a.m. to receive their appointment letters and prospectus.
The GAF encouraged applicants who had curable medical conditions during screening to seek treatment, assuring them of a second opportunity for review at no cost.
Notably, the first batch includes 18 individuals injured during last year’s El-Wak Stadium stampede and five others sponsored by families of victims from the incident.
The military expressed gratitude to the 16 regional administrations for their support in organising the recruitment exercise, highlighting that the decentralised approach aligns with government directives to bring the process closer to applicants.
Remaining applicants were urged to remain patient as selection continues for the other batches. High-performing candidates from the aptitude test pool may also be considered for future recruitment exercises.
Additionally, the GAF indicated that a directive is under review to facilitate recruitment for individuals from Sikaman in the Ashanti Region, who assisted in last year’s helicopter crash rescue operation, for inclusion in the second batch.
