Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has shed light on why only Benjamin Asare from the Ghana Premier League was included in the Black Stars squad for the upcoming March international fixtures.
Coach Otto Addo recently unveiled a 26-man roster for the pre-World Cup friendlies against Austria and Germany later this month, with Asare the sole representative from the domestic league.
Speaking to Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Asante Twum said the decision was based on careful evaluation rather than an oversight of local talent.
“Otto Addo, together with his technical team, has been watching the Ghana Premier League, and they have been doing their own analysis on the players,” he said.
“If you want to bring in any player, you will have to look at the numbers, performance and versatility before a decision will have to be made.
“It is not about overlooking any local player because we have other players in Europe who did not make the cut,” Asante Twum added.
Ghana will open their friendly series against Austria at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium on March 27, followed by a clash with four-time world champions Germany in Stuttgart on March 30.
The Black Stars will continue preparations with friendlies against Mexico in May and Wales in early June as part of their buildup to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
