The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has urged fans and the media to respect head coach Otto Addo’s decision to leave Andre Ayew out of the upcoming pre-World Cup friendly squad.

Addo announced his selections on Monday, March 16, for Ghana’s matches against Austria and Germany later this month. Ayew, currently with Dutch side NAC Breda, was not included despite recording 10 appearances and a goal for his club this season.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Asante Twum emphasized that squad decisions rest entirely with the coach.

“Otto Addo met with the Executive Council member to explain his decision to invite certain players. We know why he does not speak about players who are not in his squad—because the bus stops with him,” he said.

He added, “It is the coach who makes the decision, and Otto Addo’s choice not to include Andre Ayew must be respected.”

Ghana will open their European friendlies against Austria at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium on March 27, before facing Germany in Stuttgart on March 30. The Black Stars will continue their World Cup preparations with further friendlies against Mexico in May and Wales in early June.
