Charterhouse Productions’ Head of Public Events and Communications, Robert Klah, has clarified that there is no reserved slot for gospel artistes in the Artiste of the Year category at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards.
Speaking on DaybreakHitz, Klah explained that nominations for the category are not determined by genre quotas but by merit and the performance of artistes within the year under review.
“We don’t have one slot for them. If you deserve to have two, you’ll have two, or four you’ll have,” he said.
His comments follow discussions by some observers who questioned why the current Artiste of the Year category appears to feature only one gospel act, Diana Hamilton.
Klah noted that the selection process considers the overall impact and competitiveness of artistes during the period under review, rather than reserving positions for specific music genres.
He cited last year’s awards as an example, where both Team Eternity Ghana and Joe Mettle were nominated in the Artiste of the Year category.
