A communicator for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dela Edem, has called on the government to sell Ghana’s current presidential jet and use the proceeds to support national development before acquiring a new aircraft.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Edem said the country’s Dassault Falcon 900, which was recently sent to France for annual maintenance, should be sold.
He noted that information available to him indicates the aircraft is about 23 years old.
He proposed that the funds from the sale be invested in key sectors such as health and education.
“The government can sell the jet and maybe give the money to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, renovate schools or hospitals, or even use it to purchase hospital beds for health facilities,” he said.
Edem added that after investing the proceeds into such projects, the government could then proceed to acquire a new presidential jet.
