The Chief Fire Officer and Director-General of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, has expressed deep appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for entrusting her with the leadership of the service.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Madam Ntow Sarpong also thanked the Vice President, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the confidence they have shown in her.

“I want to use this opportunity to thank President Mahama, Vice President Prof. Jane Naana, and the entire NDC government for the confidence reposed in me and for honouring me with this leadership role,” she said.

The fire chief pledged to live up to the expectations that come with the position, assuring the government and the public that she would work diligently to deliver on her mandate.

“I pledge to fulfil my mandate and discharge my duties as expected. I will not disappoint them,” she stated.

Reflecting on her professional journey, Ms. Ntow Sarpong emphasised that her appointment is the result of many years of dedication and steady progress within the fire service.

“I won’t say my rise was sudden because I have gone through the mill. Since 1992, I have risen through the ranks, gone for interviews, and undertaken courses,” she explained.

She added that at one point in her career, she served as the second-in-command within the service, positioning her as the next in line for the top role.

“That is why the recognition by President Mahama is particularly meaningful. At a point, I was second in command, the next in line, and I am grateful to him for acknowledging that and honouring me,” she said.

Madam Ntow Sarpong also commended the President for demonstrating confidence in her leadership despite longstanding perceptions about gender roles in security services.

“He wasn’t hesitant because I am a woman,” she added.

She further assured that under her leadership, the GNFS will continue to strengthen its work and ensure that the public appreciates the critical role firefighters play in protecting lives and property.

“I will make the Fire Service proud and also help the nation appreciate the work we do as fire personnel,” she concluded.
