The Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) has clarified that no court injunction has been granted against the institution in the ongoing legal dispute involving its Vice-Chancellor, Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa.
In a press release on March 13, 2026, the university stated that the matter before the court is only an application for an interlocutory injunction filed by Prof. Afoakwa at the High Court. The motion is scheduled to be heard on March 24, 2026.
“The University has been served with a Motion on Notice for an Interlocutory Injunction filed at the High Court by Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa. The application is scheduled to be heard on 24th March 2026,” the statement signed by Registrar Emmanuel Baidoo said.
GCTU emphasized that under Ghanaian law, an interlocutory injunction only becomes effective if the court grants the request.
“The University wishes to clarify that the matter currently before the Court is only an application. Under the laws governing injunctions in Ghana, an interlocutory injunction becomes operative only when it is granted by the Court,” the statement explained.
The university further noted that as of the release date, the High Court had not granted any injunction against the institution.
“As of the date of this release, the High Court has not granted any order of injunction against the University,” it added.
GCTU also urged the public to disregard misinformation circulating on social media suggesting the university had already been restrained by the court.
“The University’s actions and directives remain in force,” the statement said, adding that it will continue to respect the legal process and update the public on major developments as the case progresses.
