Baba Jamal to be sworn in as Ayawaso East MP today

The Member of Parliament-elect for the Ayawaso East Constituency, Baba Jamal, is set to be sworn into office on Tuesday, March 10.

The ceremony will take place in Parliament and will be administered by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.

Mr. Jamal secured the seat during the by-election conducted on Tuesday, March 3, winning the contest on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The election saw several candidates from different political parties as well as an independent candidate competing for the seat.

In a Facebook post on Monday, March 9, Mr. Jamal thanked voters in the constituency for giving him the mandate to represent them in Parliament.

“Indeed, Allah’s ways are perfect. I am deeply humbled by the opportunity to serve, and I look forward to working together with you to build a brighter and greater future for the Ayawaso East Constituency,” he stated.

According to the official results released after the by-election, Mr. Jamal polled 10,884 votes to defeat his closest rival, Yusif Ali Baba of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who obtained 4,009 votes.

Independent candidate Mohammed Umar Sanda garnered 1,885 votes. Meanwhile, Ibrahim Idrissu received 43 votes, while Kanor David secured 104 votes.
