The University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC) has emerged winner of the 2026 Commonwealth Day Debate Competition held at the Parliament of Ghana.
The competition formed part of activities marking Commonwealth Day, bringing together students from various universities to debate issues relating to governance, democracy and parliamentary practice.
At the end of the contest, UniMAC placed first, beating strong competition from institutions including the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the University of Ghana (UG).
The UniMAC team, represented by Titus Owusu Darko and Precious Agrobesa Akos, impressed judges with their arguments and delivery throughout the debate.

Other universities that participated in the competition included Central University, the University for Development Studies (UDS) and the University for Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS).
The final ranking placed UniMAC in first position, followed by KNUST in second place and Central University in third.
The debate programme forms part of initiatives aimed at encouraging youth participation in democratic governance and strengthening students’ understanding of parliamentary procedures.
