The Chief Executive Officer and Director of Topman Multimedia Institute, Dominic Amponsah, has urged journalists and social media users to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) responsibly and avoid engaging in unethical practices that could damage the credibility of the media.
Speaking at the institute’s 11th graduation ceremony, held under the theme “Advancing Media Education through Technology,” Mr. Amponsah emphasised that AI should be used as a tool to strengthen professional journalism rather than spread misinformation.

According to him, while AI has made work faster and more efficient, its misuse can create serious challenges for the media industry.
“Artificial Intelligence has come to make life easier and faster, but it should not be abused. It must be used responsibly to support the development of professional journalism,” he said.

Mr. Amponsah also expressed concern about the growing misuse of technology to manipulate images and videos to mislead the public.
“Sometimes people use technology to cut off someone’s head and replace it with another image just to misinform or disinform the public. That is not a good practice and it undermines the credibility of the media,” he cautioned.

He further encouraged journalists who still rely solely on traditional systems to embrace modern technology while maintaining ethical standards in their work.
The TMI CEO also used the occasion to call for stronger measures to protect journalists, condemning attacks against media practitioners.
“There must be strict measures to protect the rights of journalists. Attacks on journalists must be condemned, and the government should not tolerate such acts,” he stated.

Some graduates who spoke to Adom News expressed gratitude to the management of the institute for the knowledge and practical skills they acquired during their training.
They noted that the hands-on experience gained at the school has prepared them to contribute meaningfully to society and the media industry.
One of the graduates, Patience Ashikey, revealed that the practical training she received helped her secure employment even before completing her studies.
“I was able to secure a job even before graduating because of the practical training we received here. I encourage others who want to build a career in the media to consider enrolling in this school,” she said.
The graduation ceremony celebrated students who successfully completed their training in various media-related fields, equipping them with the skills needed to thrive in the evolving digital media landscape.
