Some angry residents in Konongo, within the Asante Akyem Central Municipality, allegedly attacked firefighters who were responding to a fire outbreak in the area.
The incident occurred after some residents accused the firefighters of arriving late at the scene of the blaze.
Eyewitnesses told Adom News that emotions ran high as the officers attempted to control the flames while also confronting an agitated crowd.
Firefighters from the Konongo and Ejisu stations were dispatched to the scene to help contain the fire.
However, officials say the fire tender stationed in Konongo is currently the only operational fire engine serving about four constituencies in the area, a situation that often places significant pressure on emergency response efforts.
The Joe Bryden, who holds the rank of Divisional Officer II (DOII), explained in an interview that the service responded as quickly as possible after receiving the distress call.
One of the victims, Afual Benjamin, told Adom News that the fire destroyed a building containing 11 bedrooms, leaving residents devastated and many without shelter.
