The Medical Superintendent of St. Edward Catholic Hospital, Dr. Christopher Anane, has confirmed that six persons survived the ghastly accident at Potrikrom in the Ashanti region.

Out of the survivors, three have been treated and discharged, while three have been referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and St. John of God Hospital, Aduankwanta, for further medical care.

According to Dr. Anane, the death toll remains at sixteen. However, the six injured victims currently receiving treatment are responding positively.

Speaking to Adom News during a visit to the scene, he disclosed that preliminary investigations indicate that the vehicles involved in the crash were travelling from Drobo in the Bono Region.

“The driver of the ambulance survived but sustained a severe fracture. He has been transferred to Aduankwanta for specialized orthopedic treatment. He is part of the six survivors,” Dr. Anane stated.

At the St. Edward mortuary, grieving families gathered to identify the bodies of their loved ones in what was a deeply sorrowful scene.

Meanwhile, police have launched investigations to determine the exact cause of the fatal accident, which occurred on Tuesday, March 3.

A resident of Potrikrom, Opanin Kwaku Adu, recounted the ambulance was speeding with its siren blaring and attempted to overtake a trailer, resulting in a head-on collision with an oncoming Ford Transit vehicle.
