Former Black Stars defender Samuel Inkoom has underscored the pivotal role of Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo in Ghana’s 2026 World Cup campaign.

Semenyo, 26, joined Manchester City from AFC Bournemouth during the January transfer window. In just 11 appearances, he has already scored six goals, including a crucial strike against Leeds United that helped maintain City’s title challenge.

Speaking to Connect FM, Inkoom stressed that Ghana’s success this summer could hinge on Semenyo maintaining his current form.

“If Semenyo stays consistent, Ghana can make it to the finals of the 2026 World Cup,” said Inkoom, the former FC Basel right back who featured at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Ghana, preparing for their fifth World Cup appearance, has been drawn into Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. The campaign kicks off against Panama on June 17, followed by a clash with England on June 23, and concludes with a match against Croatia on June 27.

Ahead of the tournament, the Black Stars will play friendlies in March against Austria and Germany, with a final warm-up fixture against Mexico in May. The squad will be based at Bryant University in the United States throughout the World Cup.
