The Kukuom Traditional Council in the Ahafo Region has begun efforts to rehabilitate deteriorating roads within the township, aiming to improve mobility and ease the daily struggles of commuters and residents.
The initiative, led by the Paramount Chief of Kukuom, Osahene Kwaku Aterkyi II, comes in response to growing concerns over the poor state of roads, which have for years made movement difficult and disrupted emergency response services.

Speaking to Adom News, the chief explained that the traditional council secured equipment under the District Roads Improvement Programme (DRIP) from the Asunafo South District Assembly to undertake the reshaping and construction of the affected roads. The council is, however, responsible for fueling the machines and providing for the operators.

According to him, some structures that obstructed the road works had to be removed, but affected individuals acknowledged their encroachment and cooperated with the exercise.
He noted that the deteriorating condition of the roads had caused severe inconvenience to residents and motorists, while unchecked encroachment by kiosks and structures had further reduced access routes.
An estimated GH¢150,000 has so far been spent on fuel and logistical support for the road rehabilitation works. The chief expressed confidence that once completed, the project would significantly transform the road network and position Kukuom among the best-organised communities in the region.
Residents and commuters have welcomed the intervention, describing it as timely and necessary after years of enduring dusty, uneven, and nearly impassable roads.
The road improvement exercise is expected to enhance transportation, improve access to essential services, and support economic activities within the community.
