The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel advisory urging Ghanaian nationals to avoid non-essential travel to the Middle East following escalating military hostilities involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

In a statement issued on February 28, 2026, the Ministry said it is closely monitoring the deteriorating security situation, which has been marked by coordinated military strikes and retaliatory actions across parts of the region.

The developments have triggered airspace closures, disrupted international flights, and heightened security alerts in several countries.

The advisory specifically urged Ghanaians living in affected areas, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, to remain indoors where possible, avoid large gatherings, and comply strictly with safety directives issued by local authorities.

Citizens were also encouraged to keep their travel documents readily accessible and maintain regular contact with Ghana’s diplomatic missions.

Government has already activated an emergency preparedness plan and is assessing evacuation options where necessary.

As part of precautionary measures, some staff of Ghana’s Embassy in Tehran have been evacuated, while essential personnel remain in place to coordinate support for Ghanaian nationals in Iran.

The Ministry emphasized that Ghana continues to call for restraint among all parties and a return to diplomatic dialogue to protect lives and promote stability in the region.

It also assured Ghanaian nationals that its diplomatic missions remain on standby to provide emergency consular assistance as the situation continues to evolve.
