Interim Asante Kotoko coach Prince Yaw Owusu has attributed his team’s narrow 1-0 loss to Hearts of Oak to a lapse in goalkeeping.
The Porcupine Warriors suffered the defeat in Sunday’s Super Clash at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium during Matchday 22 of the Ghana Premier League.
The game’s only goal came in the 15th minute when Baba Adamu’s looping header caught goalkeeper Mohammed Camara off his line, giving Hearts of Oak an early lead they held until the final whistle.
Owusu, who recently replaced Karim Zito, commended his players for their determination but acknowledged the costly error that ultimately decided the match.
“I think the boys did their best. They kept fighting to the end. It’s just the mistake from the goalkeeper that cost us all this,” the interim Kotoko coach said.
“This defeat makes our title ambition very difficult. Now we need to fight very hard before we can get the title,” he added.
The result leaves Kotoko fifth on the league table with 35 points, nine behind league leaders Medeama SC. The team will next travel to face Young Apostles in Matchday 23 at the Wenchi Sports Stadium.
