Black Princesses head coach Charles Simpson has reaffirmed his team’s ambition to qualify for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, as Ghana edges closer to the global stage.
The Ghana U-20 women’s team progressed to the final qualifying round after overcoming South Africa 3-2 on aggregate.
Following a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Accra Sports Stadium, the Black Princesses sealed qualification with a gritty 1-0 victory in the return leg in Johannesburg.
With a decisive final-round showdown against Uganda now on the horizon, Simpson insists the team’s focus remains firmly on securing a ticket to Poland, hosts of the tournament.
“Well, our goal is to go to the World Cup, and South Africa proved to be a challenge for us, so we are extremely happy we could surpass them,” Simpson said after the game.
“Now we will have time to prepare and look at who our next opponent will be,” he added.
The final qualifying round will be played over two legs in May 2026, with fixtures scheduled between May 1 and May 10.
