The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has handed over a refurbished bus to the Greater Accra Market Association, restoring a key vehicle that had been out of operation for more than five years.

The presentation was led by the Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, together with the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Obenewaa Ocloo, during the Association’s 65th End of Year Gathering and General Meeting in Accra.

The event was attended by Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang and other dignitaries.

Addressing members of the Association at the ceremony, the Mayor said the Assembly would not only return the vehicle to active service but also provide a driver and absorb its monthly running costs. He added that the bus’s air-conditioning system had been repaired to ensure it is fully functional for official duties.

According to him, the intervention fulfils a commitment he made following a December interaction with First Lady Lordina Mahama, who brought to his attention that the bus had remained grounded for several years.

Mr Allotey explained that restoring the vehicle aligns with the broader governance approach of President John Dramani Mahama, which emphasises delivering on realistic and achievable commitments.

He described the gesture as part of practical steps under the government’s reset agenda, aimed at strengthening institutions and supporting organised groups such as market associations.

The restored bus is expected to enhance the mobility and operational capacity of the Greater Accra Market Association, particularly in coordinating activities and representing members across the region.
