The Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Eastern Region has imposed a two-year ban on Koforidua Senior High Technical School (SECTECH), New Juaben Senior High School (NJUSCO), and Nsutam Senior High Technical School (NSUTECH) from participating in all sports and related co-curricular activities.
The sanction follows incidents of hooliganism involving students from the three schools before, during, and after the recent Regional Super Zonal Sports Competition.
In a letter dated February 11, 2026, the Eastern Regional Education Directorate stated that the students’ actions violated the GES Code of Conduct on physical and psychological violence, as well as the Eastern Region Schools and Colleges Sports Association (ERSCSA) Code of Discipline regarding disturbances, riots, and hooliganism.
As a result, the affected schools are barred from organising, spectating, or participating in sporting events, quizzes, debates, cadetting, and entertainment programmes at school, zonal, and regional levels, effective immediately.
In addition to the ban, each school has been fined GH¢500 and will be held liable for any property damage or personal injury, with the extent of the surcharge to be determined by an assessment committee.
The Regional Director of Education, Dr. Ivy Asantewaa Owusu, urged school authorities to ensure that students, staff, alumni, and supporters strictly adhere to GES and ERSCSA regulations to avoid further disciplinary action.
