The Director of the National Timber Monitoring Team (NTMT), Alhaji Mohammed Kwaku Doku, has called for improved logistics for the Timber Industry Development Division (TIDD) and the Forestry Service Division (FSD) to strengthen forest protection.

Alhaji Doku made the call during a two-day working visit to the Ahafo, Bono, and Bono East regions. In an interview with ADOM NEWS, he explained that some FSD and TIDD stations lack official vehicles, forcing officers to rely on taxis to carry out their daily duties.

“In cases of emergency, especially when officers need to pursue illegal loggers and timber operators, the absence of official vehicles hampers our work,” he said.

The NTMT Director assured that, as the new head of the agency, he will work to ensure the government equips both FSD and TIDD to operate efficiently and safeguard the country’s forests.

He also stressed the importance of protecting FSD and TIDD staff, noting that individuals involved in illegal logging are often armed and pose serious risks during confrontations.

Alhaji Doku revealed that his team is engaging with the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces to enhance support for FSD and TIDD, aiming to crack down on illegal timber activities more effectively.
