Dundee United midfielder Emmanuel Agyei has declared himself ready for a call-up to Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, as he continues to impress in Scotland.
The 21-year-old joined the Scottish Premiership side from Israeli top-flight club Ashdod for an undisclosed fee after making 27 appearances across two seasons in Israel.
Since his arrival at Dundee United, Agyei has featured in eight matches, starting seven of them, and has quickly established himself as a regular presence in midfield.
The former Dreams FC player has logged 615 minutes so far this season, recording 15 interceptions and 24 clearances, statistics that underline his growing influence and defensive discipline.
Speaking to Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Agyei admits representing Ghana at the senior level comes with immense pressure but insists he is prepared for the challenge.
“It’s not easy to wear the Black Stars jersey, so I’m waiting for that big opportunity,” he said.
“I am ready for a Black Stars call-up, and this is the time.”
With the Black Stars building towards the FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, the midfielder is hopeful his performances in the Scottish Premiership will not go unnoticed by the national team handlers.
“I urge Coach Otto Addo and the Ghanaian coaching team to keep an eye on my performances in the Scottish Premier League, and if I’m doing well, to give me a chance with the Black Stars,” he added.
Dundee United currently sit eighth on the league table and will travel to face Falkirk on Saturday, February 14.
