Abdul Karim Zito has opened up about his decision to step down as head coach of Asante Kotoko, despite the club’s efforts to retain him.
Zito resigned on Monday following Kotoko’s 4-2 defeat on penalties to Aduana FC in the FA Cup Round of 16 at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
Speaking on Asempa FM, the former Black Satellites coach said, “It became a family issue, and we had to talk it out and find an amicable solution. In the end, we all agreed that I should leave.
“They did their best to change my mind, but my mind was already made up. I am a legend of the club, and if an issue arises, you need to remain calm and talk things out. I have resigned.
Reflecting on his tenure, Zito added, “I have been on the job for barely a year, and I won four trophies. I am very happy about it.”
Zito took the reins of the Porcupine Warriors in April last year, leading them to FA Cup glory by the end of the season.
Kotoko has confirmed that assistant coaches Prince Osei Yaw and Hamza Obeng will oversee preparations for the upcoming Super Clash against Hearts of Oak on Sunday.
