The Kukuom Traditional Council in the Ahafo Region has launched an initiative aimed at supporting young people who wish to undergo apprenticeship training, as part of efforts to address youth unemployment.

The initiative was unveiled during the celebration of the first Akwasidae and the launch of Adaetuntum 2026 at Kukuom.

Speaking at the event, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asunafo South, Benjamin Yinka, described the traditional council’s decision to provide learning tools and support for aspiring apprentices as laudable. He noted that the initiative presents a practical solution to unemployment, particularly among the youth in the area.

Mr Yinka explained that financial constraints have compelled many young people interested in apprenticeship training to remain idle. He therefore commended the chiefs for the intervention, describing it as a step in the right direction.

The Paramount Chief of the Kukuom Traditional Council, Osahene Kwaku Aterkyi II, said the council recognised that prioritising and supporting youths engaged in apprenticeship training would help reduce the rising unemployment rate in the community.

He expressed confidence that individuals, institutions and other stakeholders would support the initiative to ensure its sustainability and possible expansion.
