The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has confirmed that the government will bear the cost of salaries for the newly appointed members of the Black Stars’ expanded technical team.
The clarification comes in the wake of the GFA’s decision to bolster the team’s backroom staff as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
On Friday, February 6, the Football Association announced the appointment of five additional technical personnel.
They include Alain Ravera and Kim Lars Bjorkegren as assistant coaches, Jose Daniel Martínez Alfonso as scout and video analyst, Carlos Lozano Romero as team physiotherapist, and Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi as performance coach.
The announcement sparked public discussion, particularly over the financial implications of increasing the size of the technical team.
Addressing the concerns, Asante Twum explained that the arrangement is temporary and will not place an added burden on the GFA.
“It is a short-term arrangement, and the government has agreed to cover the remuneration of these coaches for the duration of their engagement,” he told Akoma FM.
Ravera and Bjorkegren bring significant experience from European football, while Martínez Alfonso is expected to strengthen the team’s scouting and analytical framework.
Romero’s role will focus on enhancing medical care for players, with Peasah Paa Kwesi tasked with improving physical conditioning and overall performance levels within the Black Stars squad.
