The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Buem-Jasikan Assembly in the Oti Region, Park-Davies Magyiegbe, has pledged to prioritize education and the welfare of teachers in the area.

He expressed hope that the teacher prize program will continue to encourage and showcase professional skills and, above all, foster healthy competition among teachers in the municipality, which would go a long way in improving effective teaching and learning in Buem-Jasikan Municipality as a whole.

The MCE, Park-Davies, made this statement during the Buem-Jasikan Municipal Assembly’s 3rd edition of the Best Teacher Awards, held under the theme “Elevating the Status of Teachers for Quality Education.” The event aims to motivate, retain, and improve teacher performance to help raise educational standards in the municipality.

The award categories included Best Female of the Year, Best Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Officer, Best Female and Male Teacher with Persons With Disability, among others.

Speaking at the event, the MCE outlined several ongoing educational projects and the provision of logistics to improve teaching and learning activities.

He promised that the assembly would prioritize the construction of teachers’ bungalows in rural communities and improve roads and mobile network coverage in remote areas.

The MCE also pledged to secure motorbikes for teachers as a means of transport in hard-to-reach communities.

In a show of support, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Buem constituency and Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams Iddi, honored Abigail Bowman, overall Best Teacher in Jasikan Municipality, with GH₵10,000, a double-decker fridge, a dispenser, a 32-inch TV, and a certificate of excellence.

The Minister for Sports and Recreation also promised to provide more infrastructure and logistics to improve the standard of education. He further pledged to give away a car at the next teachers’ awards to encourage teachers to perform their best.

Speaking in an interview with Adom News, the overall Municipal Best Teacher, Abigail Bowman, appealed to the government to improve the standard of education in the area, urging the construction of more schools.

She explained that the lack of proper infrastructure and access to learning materials in schools has hindered effective teaching.

The Best Teacher noted that the award ceremony will motivate teachers to give their best and contribute to improving the standard of education in the area.
