The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, has unveiled an ambitious social and infrastructure agenda that the government plans to pursue in 2026, describing the coming year as potentially transformative for Ghana.
Speaking in Parliament, he said targeted investments across education, health, housing, and social protection would translate economic stability into tangible improvements in living standards.
In education, Mr. Ayariga disclosed that government plans include completing 30 abandoned Community Day Senior High Schools and constructing 200 junior high schools, 200 primary schools, and 200 kindergartens under the GETFund. Additional investments will go into teachers’ bungalows, sanitation facilities, textbooks, and school furniture.
On healthcare, the Majority Leader said six new regional hospitals would commence construction, alongside two district hospitals in Bole and Shama, while ten Agenda 111 hospital projects are expected to be completed.
“Healthcare is not a privilege; it is a right,” he stated, adding that GHS 9 billion had been programmed for NHIS claims, essential medicines, vaccines, and free primary healthcare.
Infrastructure and housing will also receive significant attention, with GHS 500 million allocated for district housing, including the resettlement of Akosombo Dam spillage victims. Mr. Ayariga said a renewed push would be made for critical infrastructure such as the Accra–Kumasi Expressway, as well as the construction of mini stadiums across the country.
“These investments are about people,” he said. “They are about classrooms that work, hospitals that heal, roads that connect, and social protection systems that leave no one behind.”
He added that programmes such as LEAP, free sanitary pads for girls, and support for women-owned MSMEs would also be expanded in 2026.
