A 29-year marriage that nearly collapsed was saved on live radio, after a man who threatened to divorce his wife for refusing to relocate to Kumasi publicly apologized and reunited with his family.

The case, which sparked intense debate on Obra on Adom TV and Nhyira FM, was brought by Osei Aboagye, who accused his wife of abandoning him after he moved to Kumasi to work as a pastor.

Pastor Osei initially warned that if his wife failed to join him in Kumasi, he would end the marriage, despite the couple having lived together for nearly three decades and raising five children.

“For 29 years, we have stayed together. Now I am in Kumasi as a pastor, and she refuses to come and stay with me,” he complained.

His wife, however, defended her decision, explaining that relocating to Kumasi would mean abandoning the family property in the village, where she and the children have a stable life and livelihood.

She argued that her husband had no personal accommodation or financial security in Kumasi, as he currently lives in housing provided by church members and depends on the congregation for upkeep.

“If I leave the house and land we have struggled to build and follow him to Kumasi, how will I survive with five children?” she questioned.

Following intense adjudication and counsel from the Obra panel, Pastor Osei had a changed heart.

He told the host and listeners that after reflecting on the matter, he realized that his wife’s concerns were valid.

“I thought deeply about it. She is right. I cannot bring my wife and children to Kumasi when I have no property of my own and no steady income,” he admitted.

He explained that his current stay in Kumasi is sustained entirely by the church, including accommodation, making it unrealistic for his wife and children to relocate there.

“The congregation takes care of me. My wife and children cannot depend on that. I understand now,” he said.

In an emotional moment on the programme, Pastor Osei withdrew the divorce threat and made a public apology to his wife, children, the Obra panel, and the listening audience.

“I am sorry to my wife, my children, the panel members, and everyone listening. There will be no divorce. My marriage continues from today,” he declared.

Host Ohemaa Benewaah praised the outcome, describing it as a victory for dialogue, patience, and family unity.

She commended Osei for accepting responsibility and urged couples to resolve conflicts through communication.

“Marriage is not about issuing threats. It is about understanding, sacrifice, and thinking about the future of the children,” she advised.

The case, which initially raised fears of a painful separation after 29 years of marriage, has now ended in reconciliation, with Pastor Osei confirming that he is taking back his wife and recommitting himself to the family.

Listeners and panel members alike hailed the resolution as a reminder that reflection can heal what anger nearly destroys.
