The youth of Kenyasi No.2 in the Ahafo Region have warned contractors not to commence work on double seal (sapete) roads in the community, insisting that only asphaltic roads will be accepted.
Speaking at a press conference in Kenyasi, youth leader Isaac stated that any contractor attempting to construct double seal roads under the directive of Newmont Gold Ghana would face resistance. He added that the youth have put measures in place to prevent what they describe as substandard road works.
“Our position is clear: only asphaltic roads will be accepted. Contractors must take note to avoid confrontation,” Isaac said.
Other youth leaders, including Frank Kofi Adusei and Gabriel, warned that if Newmont Gold Ghana fails to respond positively to their demand, the youth of five affected mining communities—Kenyasi No.2, Ntotroso, Gyedu, Womahinso, and Kenyasi No.1—will embark on unprecedented protests against the company.
They called on the Ahafo Regional Minister, Charity Gardiner, the Asutifi North District Chief Executive, Dauda Hafiz, and assembly members to intervene and engage the company to address their concerns.
They cautioned that failure to act could disrupt the company’s operations in the area.
