A domestic fire outbreak at Biekro Barracks in Tema Newtown has left a mother and her three children injured after flames swept through part of a three-storey residential block in the early hours of the morning.

The fire broke out at Block P, Apartment 13 of the Eastern Naval Command barracks at about 5:54 a.m. and started on the third floor of the building.

Some household items were destroyed before the blaze was brought under control.

The four victims sustained fractures and bruises during the incident.

They were initially treated at the Eastern Naval Command infirmary and later referred to the 37 Military Hospital for further medical care.

Firefighters from Tema Newtown, with reinforcement from the GPHA Port and Tema Metro Fire Stations, arrived shortly after the distress call and managed to confine the fire, preventing it from spreading to other apartments.

Three bedrooms and a kitchen in the affected apartment were saved, while all thirteen three-bedroom apartments in Block P were protected from damage.

No fatalities were recorded.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established, and investigations are ongoing.
