Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has opened the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer primary with a commanding performance at the party’s national headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra.
Provisional results from the NPP Headquarters polling centre show Dr Bawumia securing an early lead among delegates, signalling strong support at one of the party’s most symbolic voting locations.
Out of the votes cast at the centre, he polled 308 votes, well ahead of his closest contender, Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, who received 160 votes.
Former Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr Bryan Acheampong and former Minister of Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum each garnered three votes, while former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong obtained seven votes.
The Asylum Down results form part of the early tallies being collated nationwide as the party elects its presidential candidate ahead of the 2028 general election.
Voting across the country has largely been peaceful, with security personnel deployed to maintain order and ensure compliance with electoral guidelines.
