Police have arrested two officials of the Ablekuma North Constituency for allegedly obstructing the voting process during the ongoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer primaries.

The suspects have been identified as Abu Braimah, the Constituency Organiser, and Comrade Degraft, the Constituency Research Officer.

Accra-based TV3 reported that the arrests followed a confrontation with security personnel at a polling centre in the constituency.

According to the report, the two officials were taken into custody after they refused to comply with police directives to move away from the restricted voting perimeter, which is reserved strictly for accredited voters, election officials, and security officers.

Police explained that the presence of unauthorised persons within the electoral zone can disrupt proceedings and compromise the integrity of the exercise.

Witnesses said tensions escalated when officers attempted to enforce the rules, leading to an altercation before the arrests were made.

The development comes amid heightened security across polling centres nationwide as authorities work to ensure a peaceful and orderly NPP flagbearer primary.

Security agencies have repeatedly warned party officials, delegates, and supporters to observe electoral guidelines, particularly rules on access to polling areas, to avoid interference with voting and counting procedures.

Police say investigations are ongoing, and monitoring will continue to prevent further disruptions as results are collated nationwide.
