Tottenham Hotspur head coach Thomas Frank has disclosed that the club made every possible effort to secure the signature of Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo before his move to Manchester City.

Semenyo, who completed a £65 million transfer from AFC Bournemouth to City, had been heavily linked with a switch to North London during the transfer window.

Speaking to the media on Friday ahead of Spurs’ Super Sunday showdown against Manchester City, Frank admitted the club were keen on the 26-year-old and pushed hard to bring him in.

“The club work relentlessly to try to do the best they can to try to improve the squad. I will go against my rule, hopefully only once, that there’s no doubt it was clear that the club wanted to sign [Antoine] Semenyo,” he said.

“That’s the quality of players we’re looking for to improve the squad. They did everything – I think that’s a clear signal that the Lewis family is very committed,” Frank added.

Semenyo has made an impressive start to life at the Etihad Stadium, recording four goal contributions in his first four appearances across all competitions.
