President John Mahama has announced that Ghana has reached its full allocation of 5,960 pilgrims for the 2026 Hajj.
The President made this known while addressing worshippers during the commissioning of the Akweteyman Central Mosque in Accra.
He called on all registered pilgrims to cooperate fully with the Hajj Board and relevant state institutions to ensure a smooth process.
He also appealed to individuals who were unable to secure a slot because the quota was filled to exercise patience and plan for the 2027 pilgrimage.
“This year, Ghana was allocated a quota of 5,960 pilgrims, and we reduced the cost to 60,000. At my last meeting with the Hajj Committee, I was informed that the entire quota has been taken up.
“We want to avoid the usual situation where people delay payment and later pressure us to reopen registration, which often leads to difficulties and exclusions. Those who could not register in time will have to wait for next year,” the President stated.
Mr Mahama further expressed confidence that the Airport Transit Terminal being constructed by the Ghana Airports Company Limited will be completed by 2027.
According to him, the facility will significantly improve the travel and transit experience for Ghanaian pilgrims.
In the meantime, mandatory medical examinations and health screenings for registered pilgrims are scheduled to commence on Monday, February 2.
The exercise will be conducted in partnership with designated medical teams to ensure all pilgrims are medically fit before the journey to the Holy Land.
