Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) of the National Ambulance Service are set to benefit from accident insurance and other welfare packages aimed at improving their safety and working conditions.

At a strategic meeting held at the Service’s headquarters in Accra, involving management, regional administrative managers and medical coordinators from across the country, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service, Dr. George Kojo Owusu, assured personnel that an accident insurance policy would soon be implemented to protect EMT drivers and crew members in the event of unforeseen incidents.

Dr. Owusu also disclosed that plans are far advanced to establish an Ambulance Council to regulate emergency service providers and ensure proper certification and professional standards within the Service.

He reiterated that the primary objective of Emergency Medical Technicians is to save lives and deliver quality patient care within the pre-hospital emergency system.

The National Ambulance Service has expanded significantly since its inception in 2004, growing from seven stations in three regions to 297 stations nationwide by the end of 2020, covering all 275 constituencies. Under the current leadership, the Service has further increased to 319 stations, with plans far advanced to expand to 400 stations across the country.
