A fire outbreak has damaged part of the Girls’ Dormitory at the Northern School of Business Senior High School (NOBISCO) in Tamale, destroying five rooms and their contents.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, affecting rooms on the first floor of the dormitory block.

Items destroyed included students’ provisions, beds, books, and other personal effects.

Firefighters managed to confine the blaze, saving four other rooms on the same floor, while the entire ground floor and adjoining structures, together with their contents, were not affected.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) received a distress call at about 2:05 p.m., and a crew led by Station Officer II Sumaila arrived at the scene within nine minutes, preventing the fire from spreading further.

No injuries were recorded.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire was caused by electrical sparks from a faulty service line supplying power to the dormitory block. The sparks were reportedly triggered by intermittent power outages.

The GNFS has reiterated its call for regular inspection and maintenance of electrical installations in public facilities to help prevent future fire outbreaks.
