Residents of Kumasi can expect the long-abandoned Krofrom Market project to be completed and operational by the end of 2026, according to the government.
The project, initiated in 2007, has been stalled for over a decade, becoming a concern for traders and residents.
Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, has shared an update on the government’s efforts to fulfill its promise.
In an interview with Barima Kofi Dawson on Nhyira FM’s Kro Yi Mu Nsem, he revealed that a procurement alert has been received, with the budget seeing an increase.
He also noted that a legal tangle with the consultant is being ironed out, paving the way for the project to move forward.
“We have received a procurement alert and the budget has been increased,” he said.
The Mayor expressed optimism about the project’s progress.
On the Kejetia Phase II project, Mr. Agyemang Boadi attributed the stalled work to the government’s indebtedness.
According to him, he is pushing for fund release by March 2026 to resume work, aiming for timely completion and benefits for Kumasi residents.
“The government is owing the contractor and I hope that by March I will get money for the project to continue,” he stated.
