President John Dramani Mahama has handed over engineering equipment and supplies to the Jamaican Defence Force to support recovery and reconstruction efforts following Hurricane Melissa.

The items were presented on behalf of the President to Jamaica’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Kamina Johnson Smith, during a visit by a Ghanaian delegation led by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa on Sunday, January 25, 2026.

According to a post by the Ghana Armed Forces on Facebook on Monday, January 26, the delegation used the visit to assess reconstruction activities, receive operational updates, and evaluate the welfare of Ghanaian troops participating in the multinational humanitarian mission.

During the engagement, the delegation toured several project sites where Ghanaian engineering personnel are actively rebuilding and rehabilitating homes for residents affected by the hurricane. These efforts form part of broader humanitarian interventions aimed at restoring livelihoods in impacted communities.

Both Ghanaian and Jamaican Foreign Ministers commended the deployed teams for their dedication and professionalism, emphasizing that the collaboration between Ghana, Jamaica, and Guyana reflects strong regional solidarity and a shared commitment to humanitarian assistance.

Colonel Emmanuel Asia, Commander of the Ghana Engineering Reconstruction Team, briefed the delegation on the progress of the projects, challenges encountered, and plans for the remaining phases of the reconstruction exercise.
