Fear has gripped residents of Bepotenten Sukuumu in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region following a violent clash between some youth and a Jacobu police patrol team, which left one person dead and another injured.
Adom News gathered that the incident has created widespread panic in the community, forcing many residents, particularly young people, to flee the area.
Confirming the situation, the Odikro of Sukuumu, Nana Boadi Ampem, told Adom News that fear has spread across the community, disrupting normal life.
According to him, the clash occurred when some youth confronted police officers from Denkyira Dominase in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region.
The Obaapanin of Sukuumu, Nana Nake Governor, together with the Assembly Member for the Bepotenten Electoral Area, Samuel Ekwam Ananse, explained that the youth allegedly blocked the road to prevent the police from closing it, which led to the confrontation.
They said the deceased’s body has been deposited at the Jacobu morgue, while the injured person, who was receiving treatment at the Dominase hospital, reportedly fled the facility.
Community leaders are calling on the government and security agencies to establish a permanent police station in the area to help maintain law and order and prevent future clashes.
